DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z October 30, 2005

Southeast US:
While there were numerous fires burning only a few were producing smoke
plumes: Liberty County, Florida; Dodge County, Georgia; and Choctaw
County, Alabama were most significant. All smoke plumes were moving
towards the southwest.

Lower and Middle Mississippi Valley:
Large number of fires were present but percentage that were generating
smoke was significantly less. Smoke generated by these fires was moving
west or northwest except in the Mississippi Delta where the smoke was
moving towards the southwest.

Southern Ontario:
Several fires generated smoke plumes that moved to the northeast.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
