DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2300Z December 8, 2005

Northern California/Western Oregon:
Small smoke plumes that are not very dense can be seen along central
coastal Tillamook and northwest Douglas counties in Oregon with the
smoke blowing out into the sea. A moderately dense and narrow plume of
smoke extends northwest from a fire in north central El Dorado county
in California and reaches almost to Butte county.

Arizona/New Mexico:
A fire in east central Apache county Arizona is producing smoke that is
moderately dense and extends eastward into adjoining northwest McKinley
county New Mexico.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
