DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0315Z March 6, 2008

Numerous fires producing light smoke plumes were observed by the analyst
over the course of the late afternoon and evening hours. For the most
part, these plumes in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia were moving
towards the north and east. More impressive smoke plumes are listed below.

Texas:

In Brazoria County, a moderate smoke plume was seen moving towards
the northeast, parallel to the coastline, extending out 25 miles from
the source.
A moderate smoke plume in eastern Trinity County was observed moving
towards the northeast, moving into Shelby County, and extending out 20
miles from the source.
In San Augustine County, a moderate smoke plume was seen moving towards
the northeast, extending roughly 10 miles out from the source.

Louisiana:

A moderate smoke plume in Grant County extends out 15 miles from the
source, and was observed moving into far western La Salle County. The
plume was moving in a northward direction.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
