DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1530Z April 2, 2012
Upper Midwest- At sunrise this morning, a moderate/heavy dense area of remnant smoke and dust was located over central Illinois and eastern Iowa. These pollutants are moving slowly to the north and east. A much larger area of lighter remnant smoke extends from northern Missouri to northern Texas. It is likely this area of smoke is from the numerous agricultural fires over the past few days. Blowing Dust Eastern Colorado- Several areas of blowing dust continue to originate in Colorado. Southward moving dust was visible at sunrise in Cheyenne, Lincoln, Crowley and Pueblo Counties. These areas of dust moved near the New Mexico/Colorado border by 1530Z. Myrga THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
