DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z January 9, 2020
SMOKE: Southeastern U.S... A gradual increase in fire activity was observed across the southeastern U.S. towards the early afternoon hours. Numerous small and short-lived fires were seen over the Florida panhandle, around lake Okeechobee (southern Florida), and across central Georgia. Partial cloud coverage prevented smoke identification in most of the region, except for the Florida panhandle where small and light-density smoke plumes could be seen dispersing towards the northwest. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
