SMOKE: Colorado to the Lower Mississippi Valley... Several ongoing wildfires in Colorado are producing a large moderate to think density plume that covers the eastern part of the state, the northern Texas Panhandle, northeastern New Mexico, southwestern Kansas, and the Oklahoma Panhandle. A light density plume covers most of Oklahoma, north-central and northeastern Texas, most of Arkansas and Louisiana, and parts of Mississippi. Two other wildfires in western Colorado are spreading narrow thick density plumes to the west-southwest. A thin density plume from these same wildfires is over eastern Utah and northern New Mexico. California/Pacific Northwest/Great Basin... An wildfire in the Six Rivers National Forest continues to burn and is producing a relatively narrow light density plume that is spreading over western Oregon and central Washington. Near Babbitt Peak in the northeastern part of the state, an ongoing wildfire is producing a large light to moderate density plume that extends over northwest Nevada, eastern Oregon, southern Idaho, and northern Utah. A large light density plume from wildfires west of Lancaster and in the Angeles National Forest covers most of the southern part of California. Small moderate density plumes are found near these two wildfire clusters. DUST: Tropical Atlantic... A large plume of thin Saharan dust moving westward is located over the central and eastern tropical Atlantic. Konon THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg GIS: ftp://satpsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/FIRE/HMS/GIS/ KML: http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/fire.kml (fire) http://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/smoke.kml (smoke) ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
