DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1730Z August 17, 2020
SMOKE: Texas/Alabama/Florida... A large light density detached plume from Colorado wildfires covers most of Texas. A smaller thin detached plume is over southern Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle. Central and Southern Rockies/Mexico Several ongoing Colorado wildfires have spread a large light to moderate density plume over much of Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and parts of northwestern Mexico. The cluster of wildfires north of Grand Junction CO is producing a small thick density plume. California/Great Basin... Multiple wildfires scattered all across California have produced a light density plume that covers much of the state. Parts of Nevada and Idaho are also covered by this plume. Washington/Oregon... Several wildfires in both of these states are spreading narrow light and moderate density plumes to the northeast. DUST: Tropical Atlantic... A large thin plume of Saharan dust covers a significant part of the central and eastern tropical Atlantic. Konon THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE. TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
