DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1645Z June 26, 2024

Alaska/Northwestern Canada...
Light density smoke and residual smoke continued to cover the entire
region of northern Alaska and Canada. Fires in Alaska were observed
producing plumes ranging from of light to heavy-density smoke which
extended west into the western Alaska. Smoke continued throughout
the Yukon Territories in to Alaska and throughout the Northwest
Territories. Heavy cloud cover throughout the entire region prevented
a more detailed analysis this morning.

Quebec/Newfoundland…
Multiple fires in Quebec and Newfoundland were observed producing light
density smoke which was moving toward the east into the Labrador Sea
this morning. Heavy cloud cover prevented a more detailed analysis of
the smoke.

Pacific Northwest/California/Southern and Eastern US...
Light smoke from a fire northern Washington State was moving
northwest towards British Columbia. Light smoke from a fire in central
Oregon was moving north towards northern Oregon. A wildfire east of
Fresno, California was emitting light density smoke which was moving
south/southeast into Southern California. Light smoke that is likely
remnant smoke from the Canadian wildfires was observed over the
Southeastern US and was observed moving east into the Atlantic Ocean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
