DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
SMOKE: Canada/United States/Mexico/Gulf of Mexico/Central America/Pacific & Atlantic Ocean... A large area of mixed density smoke attributed to numerous wildfires throughout northern Canada, Washington State, Oregon, Montana, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and California. This area of smoke covers almost all of the U.S., Canada and Mexico as well as the Pacific Ocean off from the Mexico coast to the Canadian coast and the Atlantic ocean to include the Labrador Sea and western Greenland. A large area of moderate to and dense smoke could be seen extending from the Yukon south and east across the southern Canadian provinces reaching eastern Quebec. The moderate density smoke extends south into the northwestern U.S. where numerous wildfires observed adding to the moderate smoke in the region. This smoke also continues into most of the northern U.S. this evening. Light density smoke extended south covering portions of Mexico, the Gulf of Mexico and Central America. Maui Hawaii... This afternoon in south-central Maui the Crater Road wildfire fire was seen releasing light to possible moderate smoke that was observed moving west into cloud cover over the Pacific Ocean. DUST: A moderate amount of Saharan dust was observed over the Atlantic Ocean and is now encroaching on the Lesser Antilles. Light amounts of Saharan dust was seen over the majority of the Caribbean Sea. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
