DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0134Z August 05, 2024

SMOKE:
Canada/Northern United States/Atlantic Ocean...
Mixed density smoke attributed to wildfire activity across western and
central Canada and the Pacific Northwest of the United States was seen
extending over much of Canada, most of the United States, the Gulf of
Mexico and into the Atlantic Ocean.  Within this area, moderate density
smoke was seen over portions of the Upper Midwest of the United States,
from central British Colombia east to central Manitoba and also over
southern portions of the Northwest Territories and northern Saskatchewan
and northern Alberta.  The highest density smoke was seen near the fire
activity over western Manitoba, central Saskatchewan and also over central
British Colombia. Moderate-to-heavy density smoke was also seen in parts
of northern California, Oregon, Washington and a larger area a moderate
smoke was seen in the eastern United States.

DUST:
A area of Saharan Dust was seen over the Tropical Atlantic Ocean
extending west into portions of the eastern Caribbean Islands and the
eastern Caribbean Sea.

AEROSOL:
Alaska….
An unknown area of aerosol was seen over Alaska today. This aerosol
likely originated over Russia several days back.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
