DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1500Z October 20, 2024
SMOKE: Midwest and Northeast U.S/Southern Ontario... A very thin remnant smoke layer was observed this morning stretching eastward from Iowa and Missouri, though the Great Lakes and Southern Ontario, and the Northeastern U.S., and continuing further east over northern Atlantic Ocean. AEROSOL: Western Mexico/Pacific Ocean... A stagnant plume consisting of light-density aerosols was also observed over the Pacific Ocean along western Mexico and south of the Gulf of California. The plume is likely associated with industrial activity originating from major urban centers located to the south-southeast. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
